The Least-Intensity Feasible Solution for Aperture-Based Inverse Planning in Radiation Therapy
نویسندگان
چکیده
Aperture-based inverse planning (ABIP) for intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) treatment planning starts with external radiation fields (beams) that fully conform to the target(s) and then superimposes sub-fields called segments to achieve complex shaping of 3D dose distributions. The segments’ intensities are determined by solving a feasibility problem. The least-intensity feasible (LIF) solution, proposed and studied here, seeks a feasible solution closest to

Direct Aperture Optimization for Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy: Two Calibrated Metaheuristics and Liver Cancer Case Study
Integrated treatment planning for cancer patients has high importance in intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). Direct aperture optimization (DAO) is one of the prominent approaches used in recent years to attain this goal. Considering a set of beam directions, DAO is an integrated approach to optimize the intensity and leaf position of apertures in each direction. In this paper, first, ...
متن کاملAssessment and Comparison of Homogeneity and Conformity Indexes in Step-and-Shoot, Compensator-Based Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and Three-Dimensional Conformal Radiation Therapy (3D CRT) in Prostate Cancer
Introduction: Intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3D CRT) are two treatment modalities in prostate cancer, which provide acceptable dose distribution in tumor region with sparing the surrounding normal tissues. IMRT is based on inverse planning optimization; in which, intensity of beams is modified by using multileaf c...
متن کاملSparse Solution for the Intensity-Modulated Radiotherapy Problem Using Conic Programming
We address the problem of planning an effective IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy) treatment for cancer. IMRT is a modern method of radiotherapy. It irradiates cancerous tissues by administering lethal dose of radiation to those cells, while sparing the healthy tissues. This method’s greatest advantage is the large degree of freedom which it allows the treatment planning, but it is also it...
متن کاملThe Quality Control of Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) for ONCOR Siemens Linear Accelerators Using Film Dosimetry
Introduction Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) has made a significant progress in radiation therapy centers in recent years. In this method, each radiation beam is divided into many subfields that create a field with a modulated intensity. Considering the complexity of this method, the quality control for IMRT is a topic of interest for researchers. This article is about the various ...
متن کاملRadiobiological Model-Based Comparison of Three-Dimensional Conformal and Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy Plans for Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma
Introduction: Radiobiological modeling of radiotherapy plans are used for treatment plan comparisons. The current study aimed to compare the three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3DCRT) and intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) plans for nasopharyngeal cancer using radiobiological modeling. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted on 10 patients with nasopharyngeal carci...
